Choosing Your Perfect Caribbean Escape: From Big Savings to Big Bucks

01_Puerto-Rico-1-header

It’s an understatement to say that this winter’s weather has been cold for much of the U.S. We’re over it and we’re desperately looking to escape the dreaded Polar Vortex as quickly as possible. And if you’re choosing from one of the Caribbean’s most popular islands, you’ve got more to think about than beaches, passports, and water. The costs can vary and will inevitably help sway your decision.

Enter TripAdvisor TripIndex Caribbean, which compares the cost of a one-week trip for a family or group of four to 20 popular Caribbean destinations from March 1 through April 30, this year.

The average cost? A little over $7,000 for a group of four.

But depending on the island, there are ways to save. Looking at the average round-trip airfare from the continental U.S., a seven-night hotel stay, dinner for six nights and a half-day snorkeling excursion for four, we found that you’ll get the most value for your money by going to the Greater Antilles, with islands like Puerto Rico ($4,609), Jamaica ($4,639), or the Dominican Republic ($5,315). And you’ll spend the most in Leeward islands, such as St. Bart’s ($12,486), Anguilla ($10,710), and the British Virgin Islands ($9,712).

Here’s a more detailed breakdown that includes other popular destinations you may be considering…
