The TripAdvisor Travelers’ Guide to 24 Hours in San Francisco

At TripAdvisor, we know that you know the best places to eat and stay, as well as the must-do attractions in destinations around the world. That’s what we’re all about! Well, what if you had just 24 hours somewhere (not enough, we know) and you wanted to be in-the-know on the one place you have to eat or the things you just can’t miss or the hotel stay that’ll blow you away?

We asked our social media followers to chime in and help us create a guide for just that in San Francisco, California with #24HoursInSanFrancisco. Here are your fantastic insider suggestions – and they’re all highly rated on TripAdvisor, too (of course!)

9:00 am. Just arrived? Take Joseph’s advice and check in for your hotel stay downtown at the The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square

9:30 am. You’re probably starving… so it’s off for amazing omelette at Mama’s on Washington Square as recommended by Chris and Claire

10:30 am. Now you’re fuelled up, it’s sightseeing time! After wandering North Beach and driving down Lombard Street (see Barghavi’s choice below), Eric Generic suggests a passing through Haight-Ashbury, which is on your way to Meghan’s picks, Golden Gate Park to visit the California Academy of Sciences and Ocean Beach.

2:00 pm. It’s probably about time for lunch. Perched oceanside along California’s famous coast is the iconic Cliff House (and Sutro’s).

GG Bridge

3:00 pm. Now back to sightseeing. Drive north along the water to find The Golden Gate Bridge.     2:30 pm. Then head back downtown. You may want to do a little shopping, visit famed Fisherman’s Wharf, or ride the cable cars, but Kathleen, Niquita, and Rachel all suggest the Ferry Building Market Place (if you’re there on a Saturday, bump this sight up the list into the AM and you can enjoy a local favorite spot, the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market).

Farmers Market

While you’re there, News Hound suggests you grab a cup of coffee made by the local favorite, Blue Bottle Coffee Ferry Building.

7:00 or 8:00 pm (depending on how quickly you can still move after all of this – and your reservation time). Have dinner at Waterbar for amazing views of the Bay Bridge lights.

And end your day with a night tour of Alcatraz.

OR…   10:00 pm. Spend your evening having drinks at Top of the Mark.

And save Alcatraz for an early bird tour the next morning before you leave:

You’re all set for #24HoursinSanFrancisco!
