Las Vegas: The Most Expensive City in the U.S. for Room Service

At TripAdvisor, we like to keep you informed and updated on all things travel, including where your money will go the furthest when traveling both abroad and domestically.

We know that a lot of the time when you’re booking a hotel room, the room rate alone doesn’t always give you the full picture of what the cost of staying at that hotel will be. So to make sure you’re prepared, we’ve done the number crunching for 62 popular cities around the world (15 of which are in the U.S.) to compare the cost of popular hotel room service items, giving you a useful snapshot of where you are likely to get the most bang for your buck.

It’s called TripIndex Room Service. And it takes into account the price of a club sandwich ordered through room service, the dry cleaning of one shirt, and the following items from the mini bar: a bottle of water, peanuts, a mini bottle of vodka, and a can of soda.

For those traveling within the U.S., Las Vegas is going to be the priciest city for in-amenities at an average of $68 USD. And Denver offers the best value at $41. But no matter where you go in the U.S., you can generally expect higher prices than traveling to other popular world cities — 22% higher, on average. And the lowest-priced world city on the list – Tunis, Tunisia – comes in at just $18. That’s less than half the total of Denver.

And what city tops the list as the most expensive in the world? That honor goes to Helsinki, Finland. Guess you’ll need to “Finnish” every last bite of that club sandwich to get your money’s worth there, amiright?
