Helping the world, one meal at a time. On Tuesday Oct 15, 2013, TripAdvisor hosted its annual Community Service Day at its world headquarters in Newton, Mass., in partnership with The BackPack Program of the Greater Boston Food Bank.
The BackPack Program provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare food to more than 1,500 children monthly to ensure they get enough food on weekends and holidays, when they can’t depend on school meals to avoid hunger. By providing these children in high-need areas with healthy, accessible food during out-of-school time, the BackPack Program not only eases the burden on families struggling with finances, it also allows for the positive development of children’s eating habits and ensures their physical and academic growth and well-being.
More than 600 TripAdvisor employees volunteered to stock an estimated 5,000 backpacks with wholesome food to be distributed to kids in key development stages during grades K-3 across four school systems – in Lawrence, Chelsea, Everett, and Lowell.
What’s more, TripAdvisor went one step further by placing boxes at its Newton and Needham front desk locations to make it easy for employees to drop off sealed, non-perishable items for food donation as well.
